i've tried on over multiple reboots.

right click start icon , right click command prompt (admin) on menu list. type cd\ , press enter. key type "chkdsk c: /r" without quotes , press enter key. make sure include spaces indicated. enter y when asked whether wish run chkdsk on restarting computer. type exit, press enter key , restart computer.
you may need add command prompt win+x menu.
show command prompt or windows powershell on win+x menu in windows 10:

an easy way see past chkdsk reports offered treesize (available on free trial):

place shortcut treesize on desktop, right click icon , select run administrator open treesize. when open treesize select scan menu , see list of drives. click on c , generate list of folders. expand system volume information , chkdsk , see past chkdisk logs listed. click log , opened notepad. date of log given after chkdsk in format yyyymmdd. please right click latest file , upload copy onedrive post link here.
