A question about preserving my Win10 license to a new Hard Drive - Microsoft Community

so first background on led me problem. week ago turn on computer , windows 10 boots famous "something happened" error screen (now not time rant on one) computer boots after automatically restarted. fine 1 thing can't deal right now; "activate windows" watermark. lost license copy 1 failed startup. did things rational person , ran troubleshooter failed "unknown exception" after 6-8 hours. recommended going store buy new license, gave great "we cannot make copy genuine" error, been of day , *bit* annoyed. 5 days later , nothing can find fix , no articles can me. option have yet try nice "wipe every trace of windows , try again" @ point think should i've been meaning , new hard drive (my current 1 on 7 years old , doesn't have enough capacity need anyhow. going die on own soon). leaves me question here:

i need know if can keep license. got upgrading windows 7. copy of windows 7 got don't have license key anymore (lost packaging several years ago), options either 1. fixing build , getting activated again or 2. getting new hard drive , fresh install on new drive.

windows licensing tied motherboard, not hdd / ssd etc.

can replace every component except motherboard
- replacing many components @ same time can cause activation grief

if system activated , functional
if system free upgrade or purchased installation,
ms servers have record mb "entitled" win 10

can new hdd , fresh installation win 10 media

if don't have win 10 media need make one
on functional system use media creation tool make new win 10 installation media

note older hardware, ms "updating" out of existence
every new build introduce features , functionality older hardware not support
in case support win 10 on system ends

edit:
text eaten reply dialog

Windows / Windows 10 / Install, upgrade, & activate / PC
