Windows 10 Reactivation: "Can't connect to your - Microsoft Community

i got free upgrade windows 10 windows 7 last year, , aside few problems able fix, fine. few months later, got new computer , had lot of problems, including reactivating windows customize desktop , such, somehow brother fixed (i've asked him current problem , couldn't figure out).

i don't know when, or why, windows 10 has deactivated , won't let me reactivate it. have product key , accepts key won't reactivate; error:

"we can't activate windows on device can't connect organization's activation server make sure you're connected organization's network , try again. if continue having problems activation, contact organization's support person. error code: 0x8007007b"

i don't think have "organization", private computer connected home wifi. quite annoying because ~should~ work , there's watermark on screen , can't change desktop background or anything. appreciated :)

this can happen number of reasons:

  • you copied windows 10 pro key off internet (usually volume license - organization - key) , changed on windows 10 home installation. windows 10 pro not free. if or brother did, need reinstall previous edition or version running. inadvertently installed wrong edition.
    • the copy of windows 10 download , upgrade correspond edition of windows have installed, if not, why might experiencing problems activating:

  • windows 7 starter, home basic, home premium, windows 8.0 core, windows 8.1 core will install windows 10 home

  • windows 7 professional, windows 7 ultimate, windows 8.0 pro, windows 8.1 pro will install windows 10 pro

to find out if have right edition installed:

click start > settings > update & security > activation > edition.

if turns out windows 10 pro, need factory reset windows 10 home:

how to: perform clean install using reset pc in windows 10

Windows / Windows 10 / Install, upgrade, & activate / PC
