why is windows downloading over 8 gig following a reinstall to 1607 - Microsoft Community

my windows 10 virtual machine gradually degraded point seemed broken. downloaded the win10_1607_english_x64.iso microsoft, mounted image in virtual machine, , ran setup, telling upgrade , keep settings. seemed work, has booted windows 10, downloading infinite amount of data port 80 server whois says owned microsoft. (it stopped instant network properties saying downloaded 8.8 gigabytes. wait, i'm wrong, taking rest, downloading again.

what heck doing?

the windows update settings claims no updates available , doesn't mention might downloading anything.

what devil going on?

p.s. @ least vm seems work again. can type in cortana search field on taskbar , edge browser no longer crashes start it, etc.

p.p.s. whatever doing seems have vanished once did through disk cleanup. i'm using less space before reinstalled.
