cannot refresh my windows 8 - Microsoft Community

hello. can can me..

i cannot refresh windows 8. says 'there problem refreshing pc. nochange made'

i've been  try :


use cd command , change directory to \windows\system32\config folder
then ren system system.001
then ren software software.001 

replies process cannot access file because being used process

hi astri,

renaming software hive not allow use refresh pc option. if want use refresh pc option, rename system hive. if software hive corrupt, may not able use refresh pc option. isolate concern, we'd ask few questions:

  • what make , model of device?
  • is windows 8 preinstalled on device?
  • have tried using installation media?

to create installation media, can visit link , select appropriate operating system. link includes instructions on how use installation media after has been created.
