Windows 10 Creators Update Homegroup Problem - Not Joined Anymore or - Microsoft Community

my homegroup consists of 5 pcs. 1 pc windows 7 laptop, 1 pc windows 10 running ver 1607, , 3 pcs upgraded yesterday windows 10 creators update. problem 3 pcs upgraded creators version.

none of 3 pcs recognizes still members of existing homegroup had created. unusual non-creators update pcs (the win 7 , ver 1607 pc) recognize them homegroup members , allow me access files have in past. ran homegroup troubleshooter on 3 machines , results "no problems found", didn't change anything.

i was able remedy problem on 2 out of 3 creators update pcs "re-joining" existing homegroup using homegroup password. when go explorer can see pcs , members of homegroup on 2 creators update pcs.

however, 3rd creators update pc not finding existing homegroup on network @ , encouraging me "create" new homegroup instead of joining homegroup out there.  , issue complicated because though pc can't see/find homegroup, 4 other pcs in homegroup recognize member , can still access shared libraries/files on creators update pc doesn't think there homegroup out there.

i hope said makes sense because complicated issue. fortunately, myself, pc does not recognize there homegroup on network nor member of homegroup (although other pcs see is), older model acer laptop upgraded myself windows 7 windows 10, , hardly use it. mainly, backup in case newer model laptop down or being repaired. since can still access acer laptop's libraries other pcs in homegroup, not concerned that particular pc cannot access other pcs in homegroup.

i started post because if having homegroup problems of pcs running win 10 creators update, sure other people encounter issues, , microsoft needs aware of this. @ least, once creators update applied, long users have pcs recognize there existing homegroup on network, may need "re-join" homegroup belonged using existing homegroup password.

the more serious problem creators update pc may not recognize homegroup exists on network @ all. and, far, don't have solution problem. maybe in tech support does?

unfortunately, restore ver 1607 did not solve homegroup problems on hp intel laptop pc. when typed in homegroup password, not recognize it. ended leaving homegroup, had same problems pc being unable recognize current homegroup. wanted start new one. typed in "homegroup problems" on site windows versions , saw how common problem , how extensive homegroup issues across windows 8 thru 10.

the first thing did turn on 5 of machines, , ran homegroup troubleshooter on windows 7 pc started homegroup. "reset homegroup" on win 7 when run troubleshooter (and have no idea why later versions of windows not reset anymore). found post , possible solution on website:

i followed instructions in answer ramesh.kumar, , saw had services not running. were:

  • homegroup listenerpeer
  • networking grouping
  • upnp device host
  • i changed 3 "automatic" far run state, , started running. once occurred, pc able find homegroup , accepted current homegroup password when joined. had weird results in file explorer in pc showing 3 times in homegroup list, figured try restart computer remedy that.
  • before attempting restart, went 3 services changed automatic , put original settings of manual or whatever in first place (as how running on other win 10 pcs no homegroup problems , should work on pc), figuring change them automatic if failed upon restart.
  • fortunately, did not fail upon restart , homegroup "triple list" problems gone file explorer, , hp intel pc still happily member of homegroup. have no idea why 3 services listed above needed "jumpstart" start running , acting normally, grateful have.
  • i have learned enough homegroup troubleshooting may brave , re-install creators update on 1 or both of pcs on ver 1607. creators update may have triggered problem on 1 or more of them, if happens again, more confident can solve problem, myself. again.
