Is Cortana as poor a seach as perceived - Microsoft Community

when searching windows applications , dialogs (e.g. disk management, msconfig, control panel) cortana return web url bet match..  find cortana useless.  microsoft or me, have set improperly.

to identify cause of issue , find proper resolution it, let know if there changes made on computer prior issue.

in meantime, suggest try boot windows 10 computer safe mode isolate issue. may check microsoft article more information.

we suggest run system file check. system file checker (sfc) utility in windows scans corrupted windows system files. if finds problem, try replace problematic system files cached version that’s on pc. if sfc can’t replace files, deployment image service , management tool (dism) can check corrupted files download , replace files through windows update.

to run system file checker (sfc), follow these steps:

1. in search box on taskbar, type command prompt, press , hold (or right-click) command prompt, select run administrator > yes.
2. at command prompt, type sfc /scannow (note space between sfc , /). scanning take few minutes.
3. do 1 of following, depending on results of scan:
   • if sfc finds corrupted files , replaces them, restart pc , see if improves pc’s performance.
   • if sfc doesn’t find corrupted files or finds corrupted files can’t replace them, try using deployment image service , management tool (dism).

to use deployment image service , management tool (dism), follow these steps:

1. in search box on taskbar, type command prompt, press , hold (or right-click) command prompt, , select run administrator > yes.
2. at command prompt, type dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (note space between dism.exe , / , each switch (/)).
3. if dism finds corrupted files , replaces them, restart pc , see if improves pc's performance.

note: you need connected internet use dism, , might take several minutes finish.
