App installed to external drive, drive erased, app cannot be - Microsoft Community

i had minecraft windows 10 installed secondary hard disk. did not uninstall or move app os drive before reformatting second drive.

windows thinks app still installed. attempt uninstall results in error 0x8000000e. store gives option reinstall ends in endless loop of failing/redownloading.

trying remove app via powershell results in error well.

ps c:\users\rudef>remove-appxpackage microsoft.minecraftuwp_1.0.700.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

remove-appxpackage : deployment failed hresult: 0x80073d0d, deployment operation failed because volume is
offline.
windows cannot install app data package microsoft.minecraftuwp_1.0.700.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe volume e: because
volume offline.

surely there's way remove app associated storage no longer available.

i managed fix mine! :)

i had 3 apps we're installed drive g: died caused apps fail update , of course couldn't uninstall them either through powershell.

even though have new drive g: had hunch volume ids wouldn't match

so went here - hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\appx\packagevolumes

found there subkey pointing drive g: previous volume id no longer exists.

(also had subkey pointing current c: drive store apps)

in windows 10 settings changed default location store apps g: drive , hit apply. created "windowsapps" folder on g: more importantly created new packagedvolume subkey new drive info needed.

i changed default app store c: drive again!!

i copied "name", "mediaid" & "flags" data newly created subkey previous 1 old drive details.

didn't restart , hit check updates in windows store , bingo, 3 apps errord before got re-installed onto c: drive! 2 of them said needed repair disappeared after resetting app , checking updates again.

i can't believe windows fragile, writes code can't fix because of volume no longer exists. bad code work!

anyway hope helps someone!!!
