System Restore error 0x8007065E "Data of this type is not - Microsoft Community

hi, 

after experiencing problems windows updates failing complete on build 1511 windows 10 pro system uefi bios due having upgraded win 7 mbr partitions, followed instructions here and installed clean version of 1703, intending restore old system image on top old system gpt partition layout. 

however, although 1703 installed fine, when go system restore restore image, fails error 0x8007065e "data of type not supported". 

i'm stuck working pretty useless version of windows 10 none of software or settings! 

i've tried searching solutions 0x8007065e error, nothing comes up, advice appreciated.
