Windows 10 Update Causes "Preparing System - Do Not Turn Off" - Microsoft Community

upgraded surface pro 3 windows 8.1 windows 10 when upgrade available. no problem. however, not have windows 10 cdroms or recovery disk.

an update windows 10 automatically downloaded machine past weekend. went state reddish-pink background screen message "preparing system update - not power down system". hung in state 1.5 days - never completing. 

i forced power down , restarted holding f10 key troubleshooting mode. nothing recover system; actions tried "failed". did not try recover recovery disk since don't have 1 , don't have cdroms windows 10 since software download. 

how restore system functionality without going pc store or (heaven forbid geek squad) have recovered?
