Activating Windows after hard drive crash - Microsoft Community

two days ago, desktop's c: drive broke (in quite damaging fashion; took sata cable , graphics card it), deleting windows along of files. because computer came pre-installed windows 10, did not have activation key. furthermore, same reason had user on computer; unlike work laptop, not linked windows account. have spent last couple days repairing computer best of ability, replacing graphics card , ruined cable, , restored computer via backup e: drive. however, needed restore windows, too. re-purchasing sadly not option @ time being, due money being tight , cost of replacement parts computer. so, did sensible thing , created iso via laptop , used windows 10 restore os e: drive.

my computer runs more or less well, there's issue of activation. can't detect valid license device. don't know if because drive has changed, because never registered account, or if used run different version of windows 10 (i have pro version on laptop, desktop might have been home; can't remember 4 years after bought it), believes using simulated software. 

so happens now? deactivate on me or something? once next business trip in april, can request new laptop workplace, means can uninstall windows on , use license on device, if possible. ideally activate 1 (i did pay more have windows license come computer, after all), suspect may not possible. finally, if neither of things possible, suppose cut down on food myself week pay new windows license, have uninstall current windows that?

1) click start, , in search box type: slui.exe 4
2) next press 'enter' key
3) select 'country' located in drop down list.
4) choose 'phone activation' option.
5) stay on phone *** not select/press options *** , wait person you.

activation alternatives:
a) using activation troubleshooter. troubleshoot option available if copy of windows 10 (version 1607 or later) isn't activated. if had activated windows 10, activation troubleshooter detect existence of digital license , in cases reactivate windows..
