Updates install but require a manual restart - Microsoft Community

this happening on 1 computer in house. ex-windows 8.1 system (dell w/intel g2030 processor - 64 bit) on windows 10 home.

the updates occur, @ end of update, screen displays "circling dots" indefinitely. has happened on last 2 updates @ least. regain control of machine, have hold power button in , force shutdown.

i can repower computer , boots normally. checked logs, , updates appear installed.

so far, inconvenience, not idea of forced powerdown after update.

how long did wait? updates take while configure.

run windows update troubleshooter , check if helps: 

  1. press “windows + x” , select control panel.
  2. in search box, type troubleshooter, , click troubleshooting.
  3. under system and security, click fix problems windows updates.

also:

press windows key + x

click command prompt (admin)

type in @ prompt or copy , paste these 1 @ time : (hit enter after each)

dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth

dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
