Window Live mail issues - Microsoft Community

have windows 7 home premium. have hotmail account, on windows live mail on hp desktop. has many issues trying connect, works, regularly error messages saying cant connect, or not responding or imap isn't opening. without windows essentials, cant find anyway repair  it, , don't know use or try fix this, extremely frustrating. ideas?
