taskeng.exe Keeps Popping Up - Microsoft Community

i know there has been post taskeng.exe being virus , needing use software remove it. i've tried using malwarebytes antimalware , windows defender , did full scans both , neither found problem computer.

one thing different other taskeng.exe posts have read mine isn't having error @ all. pop seems less second goes away.

is normal? a microsoft program? when saw once in task manager description read "task scheduler engine" , took 2,040k of memory.

(also, i'm not sure if posted in correct section or not. if not, please let me know , i'd happy move correct thread!)

under circumstances "pop up"?  , see when does?

taskeng.exe legitimate windows program.  is, saw, "task scheduler engine."

of course, malware can have name , malware authors use name of legitimate files in order fool people using tools task manager.

if malwarebytes antimalware says system clean, you're ok.  if want opinion, run free eset online virus scanner:  https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/

you can search taskeng.exe.  should find @ least 1 instance of taskeng.exe in c:\windows\system32

if have 64-bit system, file should 453 kb in size , if system date, should version 6.1.7601.17514 (right-click on file, select "properties" , @ "details" tab).

if have 32-bit version, size 187 kb same version.

a 64-bit system have 2 copies of 64-bit version of taskeng.exe , 2 copies of 32-bit version:

if find file named taskeng.exe in different location or different size, upload virustotal free check:  https://virustotal.com/
