i did not "upgrade" windows 10 , on computer when bought week or back, , dislike 10 . had windows 8.1 on old computer , (which died ). can revert thing windows 8.1 , @ least understood somewhat.

hi,

only windows 10 pro has downgrade rights 8.1 pro or 7 pro.

as moving 8.1 license failed machine:

you not tell type of 8.1 license had.

if failed computer came windows operating system preinstalled (dell, hp, acer, etc) , product key came the computer preinstalled oem license , non-transferable.

the oem license/product key (preinstalled operating systems on dell, hp, etc machines) is tied first machine installed on , dies when machine dies.

the above rule applies oem system builders licenses.

retail operating system license, buy , install yourself, allowed transferred machine.

and retail licenses can installed on 1 machine @ particular time.
