Computer hangs on Getting Updates on Windows 10 Setup - Microsoft Community

extra info may help:  a few months ago computer got blue screen of death , neither microsoft nor toshiba nor best buy me.  i found fix computer , reinstalled windows 8.1 pro. prior crash had had 8.1 home , full free upgrade offered free microsoft installed. techie reason not reinstall windows 10.  today got notice saying windows key going expire on may 14th 2017.  i went search why , options , found out reinstall windows 10 full free upgrade on same computer had installed on before. 

i downloaded download tool , proceeded install windows 10 again. going along smoothly stalled windows 10 setup looking updates. hangs there. have been waiting on 45 minutes far. suggestions how move on here can complete installation.  

btw not sure if it's related, past month have not been able update windows defender antivirus , malware information. same thing hangs , hangs.  (hours later) decide shut down , shows failed in account information.

when upgraded previous version of windows or receive new computer preinstalled windows 10, happened hardware (your pc) digital entitlement, unique signature of computer stored on microsoft activation servers. windows 7 or windows 8 genuine license running exchanged diagnostics key.

anytime need reinstall windows 10 on machine, proceed reinstall windows 10. automatically reactivate.

so, there no need know or product key, if need reinstall windows 10, can use windows 7 or windows 8 product key or use reset function in windows 10.

if prompted enter product key, click 'i don't have key' , 'do later'
