Some Updates are not installed on Windows 7 / Error code 80073712 - Microsoft Community

on every windows boot installing updates gets failure , gets  error code 80073712 ,both updates not installing "january 2017 security monthy quality rollup windows7 x64-based system (kb3212646)  & january 2017 security quality rollup windows7 x64-based system (kb3212642)"

download , run system update readiness tool -64 bit version

the system update readiness tool creates log file captures issues tool found or fixed. log file located @ following location:
•%systemroot%\logs\cbs\checksur.log
•%systemroot%\logs\cbs\checksur.persist.log

the system root c. if files not there, checkc:\windows\ logs\cbs.

 

you may need change settings in windows able see file. show hidden files type folder options in search box above start button , select view, advanced settings , verify box before "show hidden files , folders" checked , "hide protected operating system files" unchecked. may need scroll down see second item. should make box before "hide extensions known file types" not checked.

 

do not use search find files. open windows explorer (keyboard shortcut win+e), locate , expand file path (item 1 in image below) computer>local disk (c:)>windows>logs>cbs (item 2 below). expand clicking arrowhead pointing right before each folder in turn see next folder in file path until see checksur.log , checksur.persist.log (item 3 below).
