Moving an SSD to a new PC - Microsoft Community
Windows / Windows 7 / Install, upgrade, & activate
hi.
i'm buying 'new' desktop. have 1tb ssd in current one, , planning take , put in new pc has 250gb hdd. have copy of win 7 professional, save me trouble of doing clean install, i'm planning on using sysprep.exe perform out of box on ssd before swap, swapping drives , booting on new pc.
the ssd has c partition windows on it; partition (e) used large storage of media files/documents etc, , small recovery partition (f).
having never used sysprep, i'm not sure expect. i'm hoping 2 partitions e , f will be unaffected, , copy of windows on c be returned out of box welcome state, , will automatically install drivers new pc during setup if did clean install of windows. sound right, or making mistake , should install windows from the disc? thanks.
there no need sys prep. long windows 7 professional full retail license, install ssd in new computer, boot it, windows 7 professional reconfigure itself.
you can create repair disc in advance in case need perform startup repair:
windows 7 - create system repair disc - windows.microsoft.com
