Windows 10 search only working when it wants - Microsoft Community

i have windows 10 laptop build 14393. has been working well, turned on today, searched "defend" bring result windows defender update definitions. definitions updated no problem. wanted open notepad. clicked windows icon, typed "note" , nothing shows says "best match" there no results @ all.

when open task manager , click cortana, click end task, able use search function fine... things show up! able search calculator, paint, word, notepad, etc. no issues. click 1 of results, or don't click result close window has results... open again search "best match" again no results.

pretty mean search function being dumb.

i can work once , after end task cortana.

but once click result, or choose not click close results, decide later want search results blank.

i have tried restarting computer. tried windows troubleshooting tool search , indexing... didn't find problems.

i have tried "delete , rebuild index" option.

when click settings/gear icon can search stuff "reset" , results such network status, reset pc, set face sign-in, set fingerprint sign-in, set pin sign-in, etc. search works fine. it's weird 1 work, not other.....

how fix this?

the troubleshooting tool didn't find problem. signed out of cortana , signed in.

i used options find delete "she" knew me.

everything else on computer working well, , haven't installed new updated, or programs or applications.... haven't uninstalled either.

i'd issue happened within past 3 days, don't see has triggered it.

i took video of issue, using camstudio, file swf format, , 12mb.

i apologize bad quality of video, i'm not sure how else video, it's enough can see issue.

we suggest reinstall windows 10 renew file , indexing settings.

keep updated.
