after installing kb4019472 yesterday can't no longer play sounds. turns out audio jack on of pc (speaker plug-in, realtek high definition onboard audio) no longer functions. checked set of speakers rule out speaker malfunction (which not case).
thinking maybe update corrupted audio driver, i've uninstalled audio controller in device manager , let windows refind , reinstall driver.. did not resolve issue.
next step uninstalling kb4019472 , after restarting system, sound working again. seems update has been culprit.
how necessary have update installed? obviously, want keep system up-to-date not @ cost of not having sound. , how prevent windows automatically installing update again? got system , it's first windows 10 pc, , looking option "don't show update anymore" used in previous versions of windows (where managed updates , not system).
system info:
windows 10 home, version 1607 (build 14393.447) 64-bit
asrock motherboard, onboard realtek high definition audio).
thanks in advance insight.
hi jane,
thanks replying , pointing out audio troubleshooter (i did run it, i'll on that).
the reason stated audio jack because oddly enough when sound gone speakers, audio jack on front of pc still working (plugged in head phones , had sound). when uninstalled kb4019472, windows did install -during same operation- older update (kb3900720 nov 2016).
now, wrote original message after uninstalling kb401972 , checking sound, before restarting system finish uninstallment instructed when checked later on make sure update uninstalled (that's when saw kb3900720 installed instead). , unfortunately, problem after restarting. through device manager had windows check updated realtek driver windows said had up-to-date 1 (of course same driver installed after removing , re-installing controller pointed out in first message). ran troubleshooter offered generic drivers didn't help.
so idea go original , downloaded driver package asrock website realtek audio (you pointed out). since sound wasn't working anyway, did install kb4019472 again, restarted finish (of course, still no sound) , install driver package asrock "repair" whatever wrong.
this did trick: have kb4019472 installed , sound working again (with bells , whistles settings came driver).
long story short: reinstalling original driver hardware vendor (manually through own setup, not through windows) after letting windows run course update solved problem.
i hope can helpful other people too.
