Windows Update Hangs - Microsoft Community

i helping reinstall windows xp on there computer. pretty got except maybe .net framework security updates installed. connected windows update .net updates , hangs without finding updates. decided follow instructions on link.

i followed suggestion 6. when connected found updates 1 time. next time connected windows update hung on finding updates. @ suggestion 3, ask me rename softwaredistribution folder softwaredistribution.old. went , checked , have 2 folders softwaredistribution, , softwaredistribution.old. maybe part of problem? should if 2 folders? i'm not sure how important updates .net framework fix , updated can.
