Windows Installer stucked. Cannot install or uninstall programs. - Microsoft Community

i posting in case can same problem.

more year not able install or uninstall programs (that use windows installer) on asus pc. said "other program being installed" or "gathering information"….
thought windows installer problem , tried repair it. waited for, , installed windows 10_1703 (creator update) thinking fix it. no luck.

yesterday found mcafee security service trouble maker. here list of symptoms :
since windows 10_1507 update, when clicked "check updates" button in mcafee menu, update window opened fraction of second , closed back. did not worry because time went mcafee still doing non-mcafee updates (windows, flash payer, etc).
last summer, itune update blocked while in installation process @ 50% completion. kept running hours without finishing process. hitting cancel button did not , had stop process through task manager, stopping windows installer. tried having deactivated mcafee still jammed "other program or gathering information" above mentioned error messages.
thought update "bad" , waited next 1 problem still there. maybe itune bad. followed procedure suggested apple remove (by control panel) , safely reinstall  itune suite not uninstall anything.
tried uninstall obsolete income tax program still not it. said myself : bad.
when working task manager realised windows installer running in double , thought, helped numerous problem posted on web, "it" origin of problem.
downloaded utility tool provided microsoft , tried uninstall obsolete income tax program without success. same error messages , need stop killing windows installer in task manager. having tried tricks on web (registry check, etc), thinking reinstalling windows way out  not resign myself.
while going on, had recent update adobe acrobat reader.  went until end got error message saying other "update installation" in progress. clue !

how problem solved :
reloaded "installation , removal debugger"  tool @ microsoft , tried uninstall adobe acrobat reader. worked ! rebooted de pc after , deactivated mcafee.
downloaded , installed new version of adobe acrobat reader without problem.
mcafee activated, tried download , install itune update. still jammed @ 50% installation mark.
tried uninstall through control panel , success. deactivated mcafee , able reinstall itune apple's web site.
looked through set-ups in mcafee , found, in "about" section of "navigation" menu (top right corner of control panel) had not upgraded since summer of 2015, since windows 10_1507.
uninstalled , reinstalled latest version on mcafee's web site no problem. hurried complete scan , got clean report (ouf !).

conclusion happened mcafee near windows 10_1507 update resulting not update anymore. created other problem adobe acrobat reader update , kept on being suspended mcafee through  time. mcafee "too old" , blocked of things without telling. pinpointing adobe acrobat reader , uninstalling de microsoft tool, "jammed" process stopped.

windows installer, declared innocent of charges free go !
