Use a windows 10 upgrade key from a dead HDD from a pc on another but - Microsoft Community

hi everyone, have pretty long question,

the thing is, had lenovo thinkpad l420, quite old kept running fine, until usb virus (but not lethal) messed registry keys after system required restore (as posted long time ago)

after kept running fine again untill last year's holydays when hdd decided unbootable, can still plug pc , read files, can not longer main drive (the problem has lot of latency r/w header, , damaged clusters [but none of them seem affect windows itself])

also thing tried hard laptop install windows 10, let me windows update, because of issues pieces of hardware had (i cant still find out which, pages ram or wi-fi adapter) technically had windows 10, coulndt boot, got windows 7, still let me trough windows update after free period on (i tried couple of times see if upgrader updated run on laptop)

so after having dead computer, decided buy one, dell optiplex 790, had windows 7 enterprise x64, , laptop had windows 7 x64 professional decided upgrade windows 10, choosed upgrade version laptop had, windows 10 pro x64

so main question is, can use product key of laptop activate current version of windows? i can still plug hdd desktop , read files, if try boot either gives me bsod after windows 7 logo or black screen (or takes long time boot)

p.d.1: means extracting key hdd software or introducing key on sticker under battery of laptop

p.d.2: sorry long backstory
