Disabling Microsoft Ballpoint Disables COM1 and COM2 - Microsoft Community

work on laptops use external gps device attached through serial port. result, if microsoft ballpoint serial mouse driver isn't disabled in registry, gps device won't work. sent laptop out use ballpoint driver disabled , gps working @ time. i've gotten laptop because gps no longer works. if have ballpoint disabled, com1 , com2 disabled. if enable ballpoint, com1 , com2 enabled gps device won't work because of ballpoint. since com1 disabled ballpoint now, can't gps device work either way. laptop running windows 7 sp1 x86. want disable microsoft ballpoint without disabling com1 , com2. have idea how this?

i found solution issue.... or rather co-worker did. first thing not disable microsoft ballpoint in registry. prevent com1 , com2 being disabled. next, boot computer external gps connected com1 or com2. login , go device manager. expand human interface devices , find microsoft ballpoint mouse in list. right click , click disable. keep com ports enabled prevent ballpoint driver interfering gps unit.
