Windows 8.1 - Microsoft Community

windows 8.1 computer updated normal few times in nov & before. in dec & jan there updates every day, continuing yesterday & today (feb 1 & 2, 2017).  refused windows 10 offer because old printer isn't 10-compatible.  these updates taking of time , affecting internet connection. why there many updates frequently??? info.

assuming win8.1 64-bit...

we'll need "digging" here. please answer each of following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in correspondingly-numbered list in next reply, preferably without quoting post:

1a. when (approx. date) did purchase computer?

1b. did computer come win8 (or win8.1) preinstalled, did clean install of win8 (or win8.1), or did upgrade (e.g., win7) computer win8?

1c. manufactured computer (e.g., dell; hp; lenovo; acer)? 

1d. have ever done refresh? ...a reset?

2. full name of currently-installed third-party anti-virus application or security suite (i.e., not windows defender!), if any, , when (approx. date) current subscription (if any) expire?

3. third-party anti-malware applications (i.e., not windows defender!) installed, if any?  third-party firewall, if any?

4. has a(nother) norton application or mcafee application ever been installed on computer since bought it?

5. did norton free-trial or mcafee free-trial [pick one] come preinstalled on computer when bought it? (doesn't matter if never used or activated it.)

6. is kb3205401 and/or kb3210137 listed in installed updates (not update history)? [1]

7a. update version & kb number displayed in second line of text in ie11's | [alt+h+a] tab; e.g., update version: 11.0.54 (kb1231231) ?

7b. firefox version 51.0 (or higher) and/or google chrome version 56.0 (or higher) or other alternate browser installed?

8. adobe flash player v24.0.0.194 installed? test here using internet explorer only! => http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ 

9. in habit of using "registry cleaners" (e.g., registry mechanic; system mechanic; regcure; regclean pro; advanced systemcare; total system care; glary utilities; registry booster; mcafee quickclean; avg quick clean; avg pc tuneup; norton registry cleaner; norton pc tuneup; pctools optimiser; speedupmypc; fixmypc; pc doctor; tuneup utilities; winmaximizer; winsweeper; comodo system cleaner; advanced system optimizer; ccleaner registry cleaner component)?
