it depends on hardware requirements of later operating systems , also whether computer/laptop manufacturer supports , supplies drivers later operating systems whether possible or feasible upgrade or not.

there no free upgrade vista 7, 8.1 or 10.

follow these steps before buy windows 7.

microsoft no longer sells 7; try amazon.com.

go computer / laptop manufacturer's website , see if windows 7 drivers available make , model computer / laptop.

if not available, windows 7 not work correctly you.

run "windows 7 upgrade advisor"

support vista sp2 ends in april year.

in meantime make sure have service packs installed.

click start > right click computer > left click properties > see if have vista 32bit or vista 64bit installed.

it tell there sp have installed.

then choose correct "bit" download use install service packs, installing sp1 first if not installed.
