Is this "verify your email to finish setting up your account" - Microsoft Community

i have 2 email addresses, 1 of used microsoft account.

the other address has received 2 emails, 4 days apart, apparently microsoft (*** email address removed privacy ***), asking me verify email address. text follows:

microsoft account
verify email address
to finish setting microsoft account, need make sure email address yours.
verify [my email edited out]
or may asked enter security code: [edited out]
if didn't make request, click here to cancel.
thanks,
the microsoft account team

the link previews on "verify" , "click here" links tell me links go https://account.live.com web addresses.
haven't requested microsoft account email address in question, , lack of "dear [username]" makes me suspicious of clicking links. think keeps giving out wrong email address (my email address) when register things because few times year genuine messages else.

in short, trying figure out if legit email , has registered wrong email address (again!) , ok click cancel link. or should report spam?

is "verify email finish setting account" message, apparently microsoft, scam?

no. it's mechanism stops registering else's email address microsoft account, whether accident or design. should click cancel link each time 1 of these requests verification. instigator message sooner or later.

alternatively, register gmail address microsoft account yourself. legitimate verification request; once complied with, you'd never more unless allowed microsoft account lapse.
