enabling viewing of computer content on tv using hdmi cable - Microsoft Community

yesterday plugged hdmi cable laptop , tv , able watch movie.  today tried doing same , got on tv hdmi3 in yellow @ top left hand corner of black tv screen.  there no picture on tv screen - it's black.  i purchased new hdmi cable, plugged in turned tv , laptop on same result - no picture on tv black screen.  
suggestions?

first, check settings>system>display, there 2 display's shown? if both shown , hdmi cable plugged other #3 hdmi port on tv change tv setting correct hdmi port. if tv hdmi port # selection correct , both displays shown as present in pc settings try dragging app window you're playing movie in (while still not in full screen mode) off of main screen , onto tv screen (depending on pc display setting right hand side). if "yesterday plugged hdmi cable laptop" indicates that first time plugged in normal in os recognizes laptop display being main display.  if case, have audio project tv right-click on speaker icon on taskbar , select "playback devices" , make appropriate selection.
