Saving System Image Backup to External Hard Drive? - Microsoft Community


i'm trying create backup of laptop include of programs, files, photos, settings, licenses, etc. best option seems to use system image backup so. have create backup on new, blank external hard drive? or can create backup on external hard drive has files , things on it? doing cause problems later on?

also, told when creating system image backup should create recovery drive on separate flash drive. difference? recovery drive allows save copy of os can boot after crash , use system backup restore everything?

i'm not tech savvy person not sure if obvious question. i'm trying find way create backup of in case worst happens or need move of stuff new laptop places either vague or super techy point don't understand they're talking about.

it best use blank hard drive when creating system image backup, easier locate backup when needed. if need step step process, here's link.
