Device Setup Not Working Properly - Microsoft Community

when insert usb flash drive pc (windows 8 os way), message comes on screen along icon in taskbar. have attached screenshot of message question.

i left pc 6-7 hours , did nothing see in screenshot. far got. drive appear in list of drivers , devices, cannot remove until setup finished. that's problem though: not finish. can tell me how fix issue please? many thanks.

update: thank answer engelsen, i'm sorry methods didn't work. still have issue. though, have discovered problem happens when plug mouse usb ports of laptop (it's not flash drives). read somewhere need run windows update in pc settings, doesn't work either. keeps saying "there problem downloading updates". why i'm having problem?

also, using usb flash drives, despite issue, safe or there risk lose files stored on them?

there several reasons can cause error in computer. 1 of these corrupted or missing system file. may run system file checkerto identify , troubleshoot error. 

you can follow steps through fix windows update errors using dism or system update readiness toolto check update errors. 

 
note: please perform clean boot on pc. 

clean boot temporarily disables third party applications microsoft non-essential services basic drivers run. find third-party software can cause of issue.
