Interrupted Syetem Restore, and now can't even boot to windows 8.1 - Microsoft Community

i messed up... interrupted windows 8.1 restore because selected te option delete files, realized should have kept them.  been unable recover , cant boot windows.  closest message "windows drive locked".

the machine in acer v5-131.  it's daughters, it had viruses, , -- big deal (mainframer) said fix it.  selected wrong restore option , said ok delete personal files!  when realized it, powered off machine, , tried again, cant windows anymore.  there me?

it seems may have been instead doing reset or refresh if gave choice whether save files?  system restore restores pc point in past doesn't offer file options restore, includes them are.

there's still slight possibility may still boot run acer erecovery management - restore using alt - f10 - youtube .

you might able boot windows installation media or recovery drive try reset or refresh again:  how restore, refresh, or reset windows 8 installation.  if don't have recovery drive or windows 8.1 pc make one, can create installation media windows 8.1, power plugged in while pressing bios boot menu key, choose uefi version of media if offered, browse second screen repair computer link, in advanced/troubleshoot options try refresh or reset. 

but since it's unlikely there left restart, what's easiest @ point use same media andfollow these steps clean install windows 8.1.  sure during booted install delete partitions down unallocated space cleanest, click next let installer auto-format drive , begin install. 

finally, take same amount of time clean install windows 10 better os future, , still should activate free upgrade same windows 8  embedded or retail product key, or else can ask exception microsoft support aware still have option due extended shutdown of free upgrade.
